Magnolia Journal: What Pulls Us On

When the Magnolia Journal team asked us to think of people who embodied the word “commitment,” one face flashed in my mind. My dad.

I interviewed him on a cold Georgia day in December, and five months later, we held the fruit of that conversation in our hands. It’s a story of my dad and grandfather—of commitment, loss, and our deep family legacy of being tied to one another. I may have put it to paper, but there would be no words without their lives putting that love on display.

Seeing my dad inside Magnolia Journal is pretty amazing—but nothing can top the real thing. Nothing can beat having him as my dad.

You can read this and more inspiring stories of commitment in the summer 2021 issue of Magnolia Journal.
